Rocky Road Ice Cream To Get You Over Life's Bumps
This custard style rocky road ice cream was made using the following recipe.
This particular flavor of chocolate ice cream was first created during a very difficult time. It was 1929, right after the stock market crash. Talk about bumps in the road!
Ingredients:
- 2 cups whipping cream
- 1 1/2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar(packed)
- 1/2 cup Dutch processed cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup Hershey's Chocolate Syrup(R)
- 1 1/4 tsp. vanilla extract
- 4 large eggs
- 1/2 cup frozen miniature marshmallows
- 1/2 cup chopped roasted almonds
Directions:Heat milk and whipping cream in a pot on the stove (med.low heat). Using a mixer, mix together (in a bowl) the sugar, powdered cocoa, syrup, and eggs. Stir 1 cup of the hot cream and milk into the bowl sugar, eggs, and cocoa in a steady stream with the mixer. Add the contents of the bowl to the pot on the stove and continue to stir until thick. Put the mixture into a bowl and stir in vanilla. Cover with plastic wrap and let cool a little, then chill in the refrigerator. When it's cold, stir well, and pour into the ice cream maker. Freeze according to the directions for your machine. Usually takes 25 minutes. Add the nuts and marshmallows during the last 5 minutes. Serve immediately if you like it soft. Or, if you like to scoop your ice cream, put it into containers and freeze for a couple of hours or until hardened.
