Cookies and Cream Ice Cream
This cookies and cream ice cream was made using the following recipe.
Use a 2 Qt. ice cream maker or cut the recipe in half if using a smaller ice cream maker.
Ingredients:
2 1/2 cups whipping cream
2 cups whole milk
1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
8 Oreo(R) Cookies crushed
Place Oreo(R) cookies in a zip top plastic bag. Crush with a rolling pin or break up with your hands.
Cookie pieces should not be much bigger than a chocolate chip. Set aside.
Mix together whipping cream, granulated sugar, and vanilla. Make sure sugar dissolves. Freeze according to your ice cream maker instructions.(Usually takes 25 minutes)
During the last 5 minutes of freezing time, add the crushed cookies to the ice cream.
When the ice cream is done, serve immediately, or if you prefer a firmer consistency, transfer to smaller containers. Put in freezer for about 2 hours. Remove from freezer and let soften just enough so it is easily scooped.
I have to tell you, when we first made this, we had some store bought cookies and cream ice cream in our freezer.
So, we did a taste test between our homemade version and the one from the store.
Guess which one was better.
OURS! I could hardly believe it!
Speaking of taste tests, at
